Tomorrow marks the beginning of December. A magical time of year when there are multiple holidays being celebrated, the longest night of the year and shortest day, and the power of winter is in full swing. New Years Eve marks among the list of things that happen next month, that amazing time when people reflect on what it is they’d like to improve about themselves over the next year and make New Years Resolutions. Granted the concept of resolutions can be a bit hokey and most people fail to keep them, but I’ve always loved the concept and the magic of self improvement.
But why do we wait until just once a year to make resolutions? Why not take advantage of the other new beginnings we have throughout the year to try and make some improvements to ourselves? So, for my December new month resolutions, here are some things I may or may not have done in the past month I’m not going to do this month
- Compare myself to other writers. Some are better than me, I’m better than some. It doesn’t matter in the end. Just do the work and keep creating.
- Get hung up on learning. Learning is always good of course, but sometimes I find myself in a rut where I decide to learn something or do something to try and improve, but my brain tries to force me to put all my projects on hold until I’ve done so, as though magically everything I write will get a thousand times better if I just wait to do said writing until that happens.
- Let my state of mind control the actions I take
- Beat myself up for not producing at peak capacity every day
