First, I wanted to let you all know about a reading challenge I’m going to be undertaking. As part of of my role of YA Librarian I’m going to be doing the YALSA HUB Reading Challenge. YALSA stands for the Young Adult Library Services Association. Their blog, The HUB, is a great resource for YA collection development. The challenge involves trying to read or listen to 25 YA books from their various award and suggestions lists for this year by the time their conference comes around in June. So expect to see some non-fantasy teen books popping up in the What I’m Reading posts over the next couple of months.
I may or may not do reviews of some or all of these titles in addition to my regular monthly book review, I haven’t decided yet. If this is something you’d like me to do (or not do), please let me know!
Now, on to the meat of this post. Strangely, both of the two new books I have for this month’s What I’m Reading I actually started this morning and am not far enough into yet to really say what I think of them just yet. Still, here they are:
The Truth About Forever
As you may have guessed, one of the books I’m reading for the YALSA HUB Challenge. Only about 12 pages into it and so far we have a very nicely written look at a girl’s grief over her father’s death. Dessen is a giant in YA whom I haven’t made it to in my own list yet, so the challenge seemed like a perfect excuse to finally get one of her books in.
The Opal Deception (Artemis Fowl #4)
Technically I haven’t started this one yet. I’m going to be listening to it as an audio book in the car beginning with this morning’s commute. So I can’t really say much of anything about it yet. But, its Artemis Fowl, so I think its safe to say its going to be awesome.
Beyond the Missouri, and Contact
These are books I’m still working on from the last What I’m Reading post
