The time has come to get nerdy on thirty! Every 30th of the month I bring you a list of things that nerds will love from the realm of books, movies/shows, video games, and more! Let’s get started with this month’s list!
Books
1. An Excerpt of “Perilous Prophecy” by Leanna Renee Hieber
This book, a prequel to “Strangely Beautiful”, is being re-released by Tor. You can read an excerpt of it at Fantasy Book Cafe.
2. Giveaway from the Fantasy Literature stacks
Interested in winning a free fantasy book? Head on over to this post on Fantasy Literature.com and comment your thoughts on Robin Hobb’s conclusion to the “Fitz and the Fool” trilogy for a chance to win a book from the FanLit stacks.
Movies/Shows
3. Den of Geek’s 26 best summer movies of all time
This list seems pretty solid to me, although…Den of Geek, if that is indeed your real name, you have committed a grievous wrong! How is “Dragonheart” not on this list! (I’m starting to notice a pattern of pointing out grievous wrongs in the Get Nerdy on Thirty)
4. Hulu releases “Becoming Bond”
I never knew much about George Lazenby other than he had played James Bond. This article makes it sound quite interesting to hear about his life. I might have to look up the documentary and give it a watch.
Video Games
5. An abbreviated history of Illidan Stormrage
Although I never played World of Warcraft, I loved the character of Illidan in Warcraft 3. It’s interesting to read what the demon hunter has been up to since his defeat by Arthas at the Frozen Throne.
6. Pokemon facts you thought were true, but aren’t
What?! You mean a super rare monster wasn’t hiding under a truck and no one noticed?! Dang it!
Extras
7. D&D easter eggs you might have missed
Wizards of the Coast is not responsible for the consequences of splitting up the party, sticking appendages in the mouth of a leering green devil face, accepting a dinner invitation from bugbears, storming the feast hall of a hill giant steading, angering a dragon of any variety, or saying yes when the DM asks, “Are you really sure?”
8. The great World of Warcraft plague
This is old news, but apparently it hit its 11th anniversary last year. Wow. For those who were living under a rock 11 years ago, a plague swept the MMORPG World of Warcraft. Yes, it really was studied by the CDC to better learn about the spread of real world diseases. How awesome is that?
