If you’re both a reader and a gamer, as I am, you’ve undoubtedly had the experience of finishing a novel, setting it down and thinking to yourself, “Dang. Someone should really make a video game out of that.” I think we can all agree that the following book falls under that category.
The Book:
I won’t go into too much detail here, since I reviewed this title recently on the blog. As a brief rundown, in this book we follow Karina Redfeather, an artist who has fallen for a werewolf. As the isolated town she lives in develops werewolf fever, complete with a militia force and a company selling silver protection, an old enemy of her lover’s pack arrives set on spreading his lycanthropy, along with a lot of pain and death. Things get even more complicated when a pack of werewolves so strange that the others aren’t even sure they exist shows up.
Why It Should Be A Game:
This is another of those books I see making an excellent interactive cinema experience, similar to the Jurrasic Park and Walking Dead titles released by Telltale Games. A lot of the tense moments and werewolf hunts in this book would make excellent quick-time events (assuming you enjoy those. I do if they’re well done). While this title doesn’t necessarily lend itself to an action game or a lengthy rpg style game, a point and click adventure with this story would be delightfully engaging.
The thing that would really have to sell this as a game, though, would be the visuals. Of course, most games need to have those these days, but I think it would be especially important for a story like this. The transformations, the characters’ expressions, the affect of silverizing on Karina’s house. These details would have to be nailed for this to work.
