I must admit something to you, dear readers. I won’t bog you down in details, but I made a miscalculation on how long some parts of the process would take to complete in the final stages of producing Roc Rider two. I timed a few things poorly, wherein the people I was relying on for help had other commitments starting up at the same time and weren’t able to supply what I needed in the time I’d originally planned for.
This is disappointing, yes, but I’m chalking it up to a learning experience and forging ahead with the understanding that I will do better next time.
What this means, as you’ve probably guessed, is that I’m officially pushing back the release of Roc Rider two into the beginning of 2019. I could rush the process to get it out by the end of 2018 as planned, but to do so would be a great disrespect to my readers. I’d risk not meeting my own standards of quality for the sake of an arbitrary release timeline, and I know at the end of the day everyone would prefer I put out my best work. Even if that means we have to wait a bit longer for it.
But wait! For those of you who were really looking forward to reading a new Aaron Volner title this year, you’re in luck.
As you may recall, back in 2016 I took part in the 3-Day Novel Contest and produced a complete draft of a short book outside the Roc Rider universe. The working title for this book is Blood of Olthetta.
What I may not have mentioned is that, during my occasional downtime since I’ve been working on revising and editing it into something publishable. The feedback and revision stages for that book were completed some time ago. While Roc Rider two has been out on beta read I’ve been working on the final few stages of that project and as a result it is very close to being ready to release.
I had originally planned to release Blood of Olthetta in the first quarter of 2019 as an extra to tide my readers over until Roc Rider book three. However, since its now closer to being ready than Roc Rider two, I’ve decided to swap their releases.
Blood of Olthetta will be coming out before the end of 2018, while Chronicles of the Roc Rider: Book Two will now release in the first quarter of 2019.
A Chance to Nab some eARC Copies
On another note, I want to offer my readers what I hope is an exciting opportunity. I don’t plan on doing this for every book, but for both Roc Rider two and Blood of Olthetta, I intend to give everyone who is subscribed to my newsletter an eARC of the books before they launch.
For those unfamiliar, eARC stands for “Electronic Advanced Reader Copy”. These ebook copies of the almost-final version (usually some proofreading is still needed) are sent to interested readers before the book launches in the hopes that they will enjoy it and create buzz. So, if you’re interested in a free ARC of these titles, just sign-up for the newsletter and they will arrive in your inbox when they’re ready.
