We finally launched the podcast!
“Wait, what podcast?” you may be asking.
I’ve mentioned this a few times in various places but for those who missed my talking about it, some friends and I have been working for a while on recording material to produce an actual-play podcast of our tabletop RPG campaign, “The Fog of Verrilan”. We’re known as Red Desert Role Play and we are, in a word, awesome. You can listen to us here.
I serve as GM and host of this great piece of podcastery, and am working with four creative and energetic players who are just a joy to work with.
“The Fog of Verrilan” takes place in a world where deadly fog has blotted out the land and the seas, forcing civilization to take refuge on the floating islands in the sky for thousands of years. 50 years prior to the start of our story, a massive city-ship was constructed and launched out onto the cloud sea to seek out undiscovered land that might still be above the Fog… and vanished without a trace. But now, the Fathomless Heaven has returned, with no crew, a gaping hole in the hull, and a looming question as to where it’s been all this time.
Enter: our party. A former diplomat trying to reclaim the pieces of a shattered life. A young engineer seeking to find his place in the world. A gold-hearted lumberjack searching for a new purpose. And a noblewoman turned academic seeking to shake up the system.
Sound cool? Then be sure to listen on your favorite podcast platform.
Right now the episodes are released every other week on Monday, and there are two you can listen to as of the publication of this blog post. Episode one “Out of the Festival, Into the Fog” sees the party being recruited into the expedition they are about to embark on. Episode two, “The Formation of Family” sees them tackling a deeply personal problem that crops up for one of them when their ship is burned, necessitating the party to find new transportation and recover the stolen remains of a loved one.
Now, the funny thing I need to mention, there is no sexually explicit material in this podcast. Why do I feel the need to point this out, you may be wondering? Well, you may notice that on some of the platforms the episodes have been given the “Explicit” label by the platform. We’re not entirely sure why, but we think it’s because at the beginning of each episode I do a little disclaimer alerting parents of younger kids to use discretion when listening. There is some strong language from time to time, some violence, and a few things that get a little scary in later episodes, so we thought it prudent. Apparently, some of the platforms’ systems are taking that little disclaimer to mean that it needs the “Explicit” label, which I hardly feel to be the case, but there’s not much I think we can do about it.
Anyway, don’t let that goofy fact deter you from listening. It’s a great show, and I think you’ll really like it if you enjoy my storytelling. Here’s the link again, in case you need it.
