Frequently Asked Questions

You can also learn more about me on the About Aaron and Interviews pages.

Q:  How do you pronounce Ragael’s name from Rising Storm?

A:  Raw-gale.

Q:  How did you discipline yourself enough to finish your book?

A:  I’m surprised how many people ask me this one. For me what seems to work is committing to a certain amount of time writing each day and trusting myself to be productive during that time. I’ve tried using daily word count goals but for me, they were counterproductive. Although I recommend every writer try them to see whether they work for you or not.

Q:  How long did it take you to write Chronicles of the Roc Rider?

A:  I worked on Roc Rider for several years while working on numerous other writing projects at the same time, so progress was quite slow for a while. I finally decided to get down to just one project, chose Roc Rider, and then things went pretty quickly after that. I don’t really know how long it actually took in calendar time, though.

Q:  What inspired you to write Chronicles of the Roc Rider?

A:  I’ve always been fascinated with falconry and birds of prey. Given my love for fantasy, it was a natural eventuality that I would come to love the idea of rocs as well. I noticed that there were not as many rocs in fantasy as I would have liked there to be and decided to do something about that. The rest, as they say, is history.

Q:  Why do you write fantasy?

A:  There are many reasons. Fantasy acts as a wonderful lens through which to see our own world. Through it, we can attain a fresh new perspective on the life and experiences of those around us. And fantasy appeals to many of my own personality quirks when writing.

However, the most compelling reason of all is that fantasy is what brings me the most joy to read. The idea of bringing a piece of that joy to others through my own work is reason enough to pursue it as my genre of choice.
